Each state recorded only the information that it thought fit. Thus, some states recorded as little as first and last names, and the regiment or battery to which to the soldier enlisted. Others (such as Massachusetts), recorded detailed information such as middle initial, age at enlistment, hometown, occupation, etc. Details such as place of wounding or death, burial information and other notes have been added to the records when found in various states' Adjuntant General Reports, tombstones, family records, etc. If you have informatin regarding a certain soldier, click here to let us know via email so that we can add it to our database! Most Civil War regiments were given state designations. However, some are "US" for "United States Regular Army" Troops and "USCT" for "United States Colored Troops". For information regarding individual regiments or batteries, try searching the internet or by clicking http://www.civilwararchive.com/.
