Seeking information on William Townsend of Mecklenburg Co. NC (cut into Cabarrus Co. NC 1792), b 5 Apr 1760, RW veteran who received a pension.  He married Elizabeth McGraw, daughter of James McGraw and Rachel Corzine in Mecklenburg Co. NC.  Moved to Mercer Co. KY briefly about 1810, then to Harrison Co. IN (became Washington Co.) about 1810.  Moved to Morgan Co. IN about 1820.  One known brother Henry Townsend b abt 1767, lived in Mecklenburg Co>Cabarrus Co.  Henry moved to Mercer Co. KY about 1806, then to Shelby Co. KY.  Henry married Deborah Wiser, daughter of Philip Wiser.  I believe I have identified William & Elizabeth Townsend's 11 children.  Interested in any Townsend connection to Isaac Lofton, Jr., born 1784 in Mecklenburg Co NC or his father Isaac Lofton b abt 1740 in Frederick Co. VA.  The Townsends and Loftons were neighbors in Mecklenburg>Cabarrus NC.  Henry Townsend sold Isaac Lofton land in Mercer Co. KY and one transaction was witnessed by William Townsend.  William Townsend and Isaac Lofton both settled on the Blue River in Washington Co. IN, along with other families who had been members of Coldwater Baptist Church in Cabarrus Co NC.  Alden Davis

Dear Alden,
I have been interested in a neighboring William Townsend group in Perquimans County, North Carolina over the past few months, and wonder if there is any connection between these two Townsend groups.
Working with Liane Fenimore, Editor of the TSA Journal, here is what we have come up with so far:
William Townsend, Senior, born say 1705-1710, married an unknown first wife about 1730.  They had:
  1. Sarah Townsend, born abt 1730, married at Perquimans 1751 Ephraim Elliott.  [ U.S. Quaker Meeting Records(QMR), 1681-1935, Perquimans/Piney Woods, North Carolina Monthly Meeting Minutes, Image 41] Ephraim was disowned in 1770 for refusing to attend meetings.
  1. Ann Townsend, born before 1737, married at Perquimans 1762 Benjamin Wright. [ North Carolina, Marriage Records, 1741-2011, Perquimans County Marriage Bonds, Image 134].
William Sr. married second Rachel (Wilson) Winslow at Perquimans, the widow of Timothy Winslow, 7th of the 3rd mo 1753 [QMR, Perquimans MM Minutes, Image 48].  They had:
William Townsend, Junior, born about 1754, married 1777 Elizabeth White. [QMR, Perquiman/Piney Woods MM Minutes, Image 23]
Betty Townsend, born say 1756, married 1774 Joseph Cannon [QMR, Perquimans MM Minutes, Image 171]
Rachel Townsend, born say 1758, married 6th of the 3rd mo, 1776 Gabriel Newby []
William Townsend Jr. who was born abt 1754 and died in 1785 married Elizabeth White and they had William Townsend 3 born 1781.
William Townsend 3 married Nancy Copeland first in Perquimans County North Carolina; they had two children - Josiah 1811 and Eli 1805 - and after Nancy died, they moved to Hendricks County Indiana.
William 3 married Ann Hockett there, where they had four more children:  Jesse, Alpheus, Martha and Calvin.
I am trying to find out where William Townsend Sr. born abt 1705-1710 came from; what Townsend group would he belong to?  Do you think there is a connection between William Townsend of Perquimans County and the Townsends of Cabarrus/Mecklinburg Counties?
Thanks, Kim Townsend Spangrude
