Parentage of Platt Townsend
I am trying to find the parents of my gggrandfather, Platt Townsend. He was born in 1813 in Dutchess County New York. He marrried Anna Jane Boice (Bice, Boise) in Ontario, Canada. Sometime between 1860 and 1870 he moved to Sanilac County, Michigan, where he died in 1874. I am of the Oyster Bay line. His father could've been named John William Townsend or Charles Townsend. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
There is someone who has worked hard on this line and I helped her. We cannot pinpoint who his parents were. Let me find her email although you may have been in contact with her. No new records for this neck of the woods have surfaced since that time. Wish it were different. LIANE FENIMORE
Here is an old email from her:
I had an email this week from a descendant of Platt Townsend (son of Charles Townsend and Elizabeth Van Vlack)....his name is Daryl Townsend. His father Ora had DNA testing done and it confirms that Platt and Charles are members of the Oyster Bay Townsend group.....36 of the 37 markers match. I have suggested to Daryl that he contact you but have told him that we have been unable to connect Charles Townsend to a family of origin. The family I believe to be the best lead at this point is .....
Stephen b. 18 Jul 1727 in Queens d. 20 Jul 1787 in Fishkill, Dutchess. He is married to Deborah Smith, 1730-1813.
Mary ....md John Adooms
Nathaniel b. 1761 ....married Sarah Begil/Bedell
John Townsend b. Jun 29, 1752 Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co.,
- d. 1824 Rensselaerville, Albany, NY
~m~ Sara Tappen May 4, 1775 in Poughkeepsie.
CH: Stephen b. 1776; Ann b. 1778; Tunnis Tappen b. 1780; John P. b. 1782; Robert b. 1785, Susan b. 1788; Benjamin b. 1791; Charles b. 1793; Hester b. 1796; and Joanna b. 1799.
Not sure if this is still a good email or if she has done anything new:
email@example.com [Linda Herman]
The only other group that would interest me are the two sons of Dr. Platt Townsend who lived in Delaware Co., NY. The Townsend Memorial has only one known child for each son which seems to be to be too few. The doctor married in 1760 so his sons would be in a position to have children from about 1790 onwards. One of them was named William the other was Isaac. William md an Abigail and he died in Delaware Co. Isaac had at least a daughter who died in Delaware Co. but the TM has sparse details on this family group.
I cannot believe someone named a son Platt just because they liked the name. There has to be a connection to the surname Platt.
Thank you for your response! I am the brother of Daryl Townsend and have been stuck on this for 30 years. I was at the point of giving up when Daryl told he had contacted Linda Herman. She was sure that Charles Townsend and Elizabeth Van Vlack were Platt's parents. However, I cannot find any connection to other Oyster Bay family members. I've been thinking along the same lines as you-- Platt is not a common name and probably comes through Dr. Platt Townsend's line. It makes the most sense, just can't connect them. I'll keep looking though! Again, thank you for your help! It's really appreciated! Duane Townsend
