Tertullus and Clarissa Townsend
Does anyone have information on Tertullus Townsend (1794-1843) who married his cousin Clarissa Townsend (1798-1886)? He was born in either Putnam, Dutchess County, NY or Townsendville, Seneca County, NY. They married about 1820. I have listed as his children: David (b 1821), George Washington (b 1828), Jackson (b 1827), John Kelly (b1831), Augustus (b1834), Rachel (b1836) and Converse E (b 1838), and, possibly Colwell (b 1825). I have his parents as Elijah (1767-1862) and Martha Gunnung (1769-1844); Clarissa's parents as Gilbert (1764-1843) and Abigail Mead (1765-1839). The big question is whether Colwell is a son. Thanks for any insight.
Hello. I am related to this Townsendville group and live quite close. I've done years of research on this family group. Clarissa was the sister of my GGG Grandfather, Jeremiah. Their other sister Miranda married Tertullus' brother Jedediah. According to my records, they did have a son, Colwell. Not much info on him except a Colwell does show up on a "defective" census in 1880 which would put him at about 50 living in Steuben Co nearby.
This may be a Junior though since he was born in 1850. I will see what else I can find. He's listed as "insane" and his headstone says Reverend.
