Thomas of Lynn, MA

Thomas Townsend and his wife left England about 1637 and were granted 60 acres of land in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1638.  He had two wives in New England, one whose name is not known, while the other is only known as Mary.  It is uncertain whether she was Mary Newgate or not, but she was not John Newgate's sister who died young.  It is not known if he married his first wife in England, but if so, no marriage has surfaced to identify her.  In a deed, his second, or "now wife," is called Mary and at least the youngest son is believed to be hers.  Thomas is likely the son of Henry Townsend of Bracon Ash, Norfolk and Gedding, Suffolk.
