Thomas of Lynn, MA

Thomas Townsend and his wife left England about 1637 and were granted 60 acres of land in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1638.  He had two wives and one of them is believed to be Mary Newgate.  No record documents even the first name of his wife who came to MA, while a deed records his second, or "now wife" as Mary.  Thomas is believed to be the son of Henry Townsend of Bracon Ash, Norfolk and Gedding, Suffolk.
  • A sub-group went to South Carolina.
