Thomas of Lynn, MA

Thomas Townsend and his wife left England about 1637 and were granted 60 acres of land in Lynn, Massachusetts in 1638.  He had two wives in New England, one whose name is not known, and one only known as Mary.  It is uncertain whether she was Mary Newgate or not, but she was not John Newgate's sister who died young.  No record documents even the first name of his wife who came to MA, while a deed records his second, or "now wife," as Mary.  Thomas is believed to be the son of Henry Townsend of Bracon Ash, Norfolk and Gedding, Suffolk.
