Repentance Townsend first appears in Caln Township, Chester County, PA in 1738 when he was pursued in court for money that he owed. He next appears in Virginia in the 1740s where he and his wife were warned about the care of their children. They moved further south and he died about 1794 in the Abbeville District, South Carolina. His sons settled in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee and descendants moved westwards throughout the South.
